Trained as a classical violinist, Toronto musician Alex Cheung is continuing his journey through many different musical styles and genres. He performs classical, folk, Celtic, pop/rock, country, jazz and R&B music, and is proficient in improvisation and string arrangement. Alex teaches violin, chamber music and music theory at his private studio, at University Settlement Music & Arts School in Toronto, at St Andrew’s College in Aurora and at Yip’s Music and Montessori School in Markham.

Alex loves performing live; he performed at Montreal Jazz Festival with Julie Crochetière.  He has performed at many pubs and special events such as St Patrick’s Day with Celtic band Up All Night. Over the years, Alex has collaborated with many artists and bands, including the late Kenny Maclean, the BIG SOUND (Motown), bluegrass/roots band Often Running, and acoustic 80’s band the McFlies and electronic/rock band Orson Wilds. In 2006, Alex earned an honourable mention by Peter Gabriel with his entry in the “Shock the Monkey” Remix Contest hosted by Realworld Records. During the pandemic, Alex has developed new skills in video editing – putting together up to 25 musicians’/actors’ video clips to produce polished composite videos.
