To set up your first lesson with Cook Music School you simply need to fill out our enrollment form. Once the form is filled out then we will get in contact with you within 48 hours to work out scheduling details with one of our teachers for a trial lesson.
How do I pay for my trial lesson?
Once the scheduling has been lined up between you and your teacher, an invoice will be sent to the primary email on your account. You can choose to pay for the trial lesson through the button on the invoice, which will allow you to pay with your credit card through Stripe, or you can send the payment via e-transfer to info@cookmusicschool.ca (auto-deposit in enabled). Payment for the trial lesson must be made at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled lesson. If payment is not made prior to this 48 hours then the trial lesson may be cancelled by the school.
What happens after my trial lesson?
After your trial lesson, we will follow up with you to see how your lesson went. Providing you feel the teacher and timeslot work well for you moving forward, you can then choose to confirm weekly lessons with your teacher. Once a student confirms that they would like to continue weekly with their teacher, then auto-pay must be set up by the student. If there are more lessons remaining within the same month as the trial lesson then an invoice will be sent for those lessons and an auto-payment will be made for those lessons. Invoices are then sent out on the first of each month, and an auto-payment will also be processed at this time.
How do I set up auto-pay?
Once we have confirmation that a student would like to continue lessons weekly with their teacher, an email will be sent to the primary email within the student’s account. This email will outline all details regarding how to set up auto-pay. If auto-pay is not set up more than 48 hours prior to your first weekly lesson, then the lesson may be canceled by the school.
How do I set up calendar sync?
Once we have confirmation that a student would like to continue lessons weekly with their teacher, an email will be sent to the primary email within the student’s account. This email will outline all details regarding how to set up calendar sync.
What is Cook Music School’s cancellation policy?
At Cook Music School we have set up a cancellation policy that can allow flexibility for our students, as well as promote regularity for lessons.
– Lessons canceled with more than 5 days notice may be canceled free of charge.
– Lessons canceled with more than 24 hours notice may be rescheduled.
– Lessons canceled within 24 hours of a scheduled lesson are charged at full rate.
*All cancellations and reschedulings must be coordinated with the music school itself, and not the assigned teacher.
What is Cook Music School’s rescheduling policy?
A lesson may be rescheduled if more than 24 hours notice is given prior to a scheduled lesson. A rescheduled full lesson must take place on another day within 1 week of the lesson being rescheduled. Alternatively, a lesson that is being rescheduled may be broken up into the following 2 or 3 lessons, where the duration of the time being rescheduled is added to subsequent lessons. For example, if a student is unable to take their 1 hour lesson, then the following two lessons may be 1.5 hours to make up the lost time. Students must offer rescheduling options if opting for a rescheduled lesson.
All rescheduling adjustments must be confirmed by both the teacher and the student to be certain that the changed lesson time(s) can be accommodated on both sides. If rescheduling is not an option based on teacher availability, then the lesson may be canceled free of charge.
Below is a diagram to show both canceled and rescheduled lessons in a more visually friendly manner.
What happens if I reschedule a lesson from in-person to virtual (or vice versa)?
Providing 24 hours notice is given before this rescheduling, then the lesson price will be adjusted from either the virtual rate to the in-person rate, or vice versa.
What happens if a student is late for a lesson?
Most of our teachers are working with very full schedules, so if a student is late for a lesson there is no guarantee that the teacher can finish later than the scheduled end time for that lesson. The teacher sets a block of time aside for each scheduled lesson, and that is the time they are paid for. If a student is late for a lesson, they are still to pay for the lesson within its scheduled duration. It is recommended that students intend on being 5-10 minutes early to either their in-person or virtual lesson to help ensure that they are not late for their scheduled lesson.
What happens if a teacher is late for a lesson?
If a teacher is late for a lesson and the student needs to finish the lesson at the exact time the lesson was to be finished, then the time lost can either be made up in the future as a rescheduled lesson, or the student/parent can reach out to the school to discuss reimbursement for this lost time.
I’m a teacher, how do I join the Cook Music School team?
Simply put, just reach out! You can contact us at info@cookmusicschool.ca expressing your interest in joining the team, and from there we can set up an interview with you to see how your skillset may fit within our team of specialized teachers. We are not always hiring for all instruments, but we do our best to onboard teachers that compliment our team as needed.
Does Cook Music School host recitals?
Yes, we do! Every November and April we host recitals at Christie Gardens in Toronto. We post these dates on our homepage and keep our students posted once specific dates are set. The recitals are hosted at Christie Gardens because it gives us an opportunity to entertain the residents of this care home while also allowing our students to play on a baby grand piano within this beautiful space.
What makes Cook Music School different from other music schools?
Cook Music School was created by Josh Cook, a teacher of 15+ years at the time the school was formed. With a specialization in music technology, straight away Josh wanted to add teachers to the team that could help students learn within this specialized and expanding field. With a sub-focus on piano and composition, Josh understands just how well these skills can pair with music technology, and so more broad classes like music production, synthesis, composition/song-writing, were some of the fundamental pillars for what this school offers. Having now expanded further, the school now offers everything from orchestral instrument lessons, to band instrument lessons, to lessons in composition/history, and various forms of music technology. While our team may build slowly, this is with intent as we like to keep our team relatively small and very specialized. If a teacher is teaching mostly the niche area that they love most, then they are more likely to bring the best version of themselves into each lesson.
