Chris A.

Chris is an upright and electric bassist and educator based in Toronto. He appears as a member of a number of groups and as a freelance musician, open to play in just about any situation. He has been heard with eclectic groups of jazz musicians, free improvisors, songwriters and working musicians in many different idioms and venues across Toronto. He has toured Europe and the United States with Tia Brazda and his co-run Lila Ensemble, and appeared on albums with some of the top names in Canadian jazz.

Chris has always had a profound interest in the learning process, and believes strongly that the best part of playing music is sharing it with others whether through performing or teaching.  Like in his performing career, he uses his strong fundamentals in the basics of music to be flexible in terms of the students preferred styles of music. His approach to all lessons is simple in concept; everything centered around learning to listen to music actively and intelligently, and approaching the exploration of music literacy and proficiency patiently.
